Two lookups can look identical on screen and be handled completely differently underneath. This page explains which is which, so you can choose accordingly.
Version 1.0 · Effective 11 August 2026
The short version
- Your own API keys (BYO): lookups run directly from your device to the provider. We never receive or store the result data — only a usage count, for billing.
- DataTaper-provided (metered) lookups: requests are proxied through our servers, and results may be cached for up to 120 days to avoid duplicate provider calls.
- Free / browser-based scraping: free-plan Search and LinkedIn discovery run from your own device and IP address, which can lead to CAPTCHAs or IP blocks.
- Premium Search: performed through the Serper API on our servers — your IP address is not exposed for these searches.
- URL Scanner: fetches the pages you ask it to scan directly from your own IP address.
Who we are
DataTaper is owned and operated by IGDB Solutions Private Limited (“IGDB Solutions”, “we”, “us”), a company incorporated in India. This policy covers the DataTaper application, our hosted licensing, billing, and proxy infrastructure, and this website.
It sits alongside the DataTaper User Agreement. Where the two describe the same thing, they are meant to say the same thing; the User Agreement governs your use of the Services.
What we collect
Regardless of how you use the Services, we store what is necessary to run them:
- Account and licence details — the credentials that activate and identify your installation.
- Device-binding information — each licence is locked to a single active device.
- Your usage and credit ledger — what was consumed, when, and against which service.
- Billing records — plan, credit packs, payments, and any per-action fees accrued on your own keys.
Input files you provide to the scraping features — CSV lists of names or URLs, for example — are processed on your device. For a metered lookup, only the specific lookup key needed for that request (a LinkedIn profile URL, an email address, a search query) is transmitted to our servers.
How lookups are handled
There are two paths, and they differ in what reaches us.
Lookups using your own API key (BYO)
The request is made directly between your device and the provider. We do not receive, process, or store the content of the lookup or its results. We record only a usage count — the number of actions performed — to bill any applicable per-action fee. Your use of that provider is governed by your own agreement with them.
DataTaper-provided (metered) lookups
The request is proxied through our servers, which call the provider on your behalf. The request and its result pass through our infrastructure, and results may be cached for up to 120 days so an identical request does not trigger a second chargeable provider call. Cached and recorded lookups may be visible to our administrators for support, billing, quality, and abuse-prevention purposes. The credit cost applies whether a result is served fresh or from our cache.
Your IP address
Some features retrieve publicly available information by automating a browser. Because of how they work, they can involve your own network.
- Premium Search (via Serper) — your IP is not exposed. These searches run on our servers, so your network is not subject to search-engine rate-limiting or blocking.
- Free / browser-based Search and LinkedIn discovery — your IP is used. These automate a browser on your own device. Search engines and websites may present CAPTCHAs, apply rate limits, or impose temporary or permanent IP blocks on your network, and some runs may need human interaction.
- URL Scanner — your IP is used. Target pages are fetched directly from your device, which exposes your IP address to those sites.
You are responsible for ensuring your use of these features complies with the terms and applicable laws of any website or search engine you access.
Third-party providers
Data surfaced by the Services originates from independent third-party providers, including SalesQL, Lusha, Apollo, Serper, and MyEmailVerifier. Their availability, accuracy, and terms are outside our control.
For metered lookups, we send the provider only the lookup key required for your request. When you use your own key, the relationship — including its pricing, rate limits, and privacy terms — is solely between you and that provider.
This website
If you submit the early-access or contact form on this site, we store the name, email address, company, and message you provide, so we can reply.
Along with each submission we record the originating IP address and browser user-agent string. These are kept purely as a spam and abuse backstop — they are what enforce the per-network submission limits — and are not used for advertising or profiling. We do not sell what you submit.
How long we keep data
- Cached metered results — up to 120 days from the lookup.
- Usage and credit ledger, billing records — for as long as your account is active, and afterwards where we are required to retain them (for example, tax and accounting law).
- Account and licence details — until the account is closed, plus any period required by law.
- Website enquiries — until they are dealt with and no longer needed for the conversation they started.
- BYO lookup content — never stored, so there is nothing to retain.
Your role as controller
As between us, you are the data controller for any personal data you collect, enrich, verify, or otherwise process using the Services; we act as your processor for those operations.
That means you are responsible for establishing a lawful basis for the processing, honoring data-subject rights and opt-out requests, and complying with the data-protection and electronic-marketing laws that apply to you — including the GDPR, CAN-SPAM, and India's DPDP Act, as relevant.
Your rights
For the data we hold about you — your account, licence, usage, and billing records — you can ask us to give you a copy, correct it, or delete it, subject to the records we must keep by law. Write to legal@datataper.com and we will respond within the period required by applicable law.
For a request about someone whose details you found through the Services, you are the controller: the request needs to be handled by you, and we will support you where we can.
Security
Access to metered lookup records is limited to administrators who need it for support, billing, quality, and abuse-prevention. Licence keys are device-bound, and sharing, reselling, or transferring one is prohibited — keep yours confidential, since you are responsible for activity under it.
No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise. If you believe an account or key has been compromised, contact us immediately.
Changes to this policy
We may revise this policy from time to time. The effective date above reflects the latest version, and material changes will be notified through the Services or this website. Continuing to use the Services after a change takes effect means you accept the revised policy.
